Well it’s officially official. As of Tuesday night at 8pm, all athlete submissions had to be validated. No changes can be made any longer. CrossFit Boynton Beach has officially taken 19th place in the SE Region out of almost 300 affiliate teams (in 4 states). These are just the affiliates in the SE that chose to put a team together. There are actually more affiliates than that in our Region. This is a huge accomplishment for us. Last year CFBB placed 36th in the SE. Only 30 teams get to compete at The Regional Games. This year things were a bit different.
We had approximately 40 members register for the Open this year. This 5 week competition was quite an exhausting process for most of us. Each week CrossFit HQ released a WOD that needed to be performed by each athlete in front of a qualified judge. This was like being in a competition for 5 weeks. Each week, the score of the top 3 male and female athletes contributed to the team score. This changed from week to week. Obviously with some consistency.
For many of us, by the 5th week, it became quite consuming and mentally draining as it seemed to become the focal point of our lives, and everything else was structured around training and preparing for the WOD. This is the confirmation of just how important this competition is to us.
So now what? Now we start to prepare for the 2013 SE Regional CrossFit Games. The event will take place over 3 days and will start on Friday May 17th. The Games will be held in our backyard at the Convention Center on Okeechobee Blvd in WPB. (about 5 blocks from The CrossFit Squad).
Who will be competing? Unofficially, the team members will be as follows:
Jaci, MP, Sarah & Mikel Tom, Corey, Alex & Chris
It should also be mentioned that Jaci Cale was not only the top qualifier for the girls throughout the 5 week Open, but she also qualified individually with a 45th place finish in the SE, giving her the choice to compete either as an individual or as a team member. Only the top 48 girls from our region qualify to compete individually. (out of 4 states!)
All of these athletes rose to the occasion and gave it their all week after week for 5 weeks. Their perseverance was rewarded in end with an earned spot in the SE Regional CrossFit Games. Please make a special point to congratulate each of these awesome athletes for their accomplishments and hard work.
